Google Proxy : Access restricted web sites

O’Reilly’s has posted instructions for using Google as a free proxy ,
What’s the purpose for Google as a proxy? We often use office/school/university connections, usually those services are set to provide more safety, blocking the access to undesired web sites (the “black list”). What you can do now is use Google translator service (language tools) as a proxy to bypass the restrictions set for our connection!
Basically, you have Google translate your page from English to English (or whatever language you like). Assuming that Google isn’t blacklisted, you should be able to access any site with this method. This should be especially useful for those of you who have dealt with blacklisted websites that you actually have legitimate reasons for using.

Google Hacking: Ten Simple Security Searches That Work
Google has become the de facto standard in the search arena. It’s easy, quick and powerful. For those same reasons that the general user has gravitated to Google, so have the hackers. And as we all know, if the hackers use, the security professionals need to utilize it as well.
Johnny Long (with help from Ed Skoudis) show exactly HOW to go abt it . CLICK HERE to read the juicy article. I certainly learn a lot from it, hope, so will u .

The Google Proxy
Google has a web proxy that may be able to get you around your corporate firewall, and may allow you to surf anonymously.
Mark Taw writes, ” Long story short, surf the web from http://www.google.com/xhtml to
get a proxied & simplified version of any page you want to visit.
May bypass corporate firewalls, may not. May provide some level of
anonymity, may not. Breaks up long pages into smaller ones, and you can
turn off images. “

Inside Vista’s new image-based install
Vista’s installation process is dramatically different to any previous version of Windows: rather than being an ‘installer’, the install DVD is actually a preinstalled copy of Windows that simply gets decompressed onto your PC.
So how does it adjust to your hardware? How do you slipstream updates and drivers into it? Can you also ‘preinstall’ your favourite apps into your Vista DVD?
And most importantly, can you build a custom Vista install DVD that doesn’t install all the ‘free AOL trial’ crap that typically comes bundled in with Windows?

AT&T Labs vs. Google Labs: not your grandfather’s R&D
Found an interesting article comparing “Google” & Good-old “AT & T” . Here’s what writer says –
It’s easy to knock the telcos nowadays, especially in the wake of the Net neutrality debates. AT&T and Verizon are lumbering old dinosaur behemoths from the post-war era who are steadily being displaced by the smaller, more agile, more innovative mammals of the Internet age—or so the standard narrative goes. But before we write off the telcos in general and AT&T in specific, I think it’s worth looking at their legacy of innovation and how that legacy has evolved. It’s also worth asking if the best metaphor for their troubles in the fast-moving innovation economy is really “dinosaurs being replaced by mammals.” For my part, I think a better metaphor might be “old people blowing money in an effort to compete with the young, fabulous, and deeply in debt.”

Device writes on water
Researchers at Akishima Laboratories (Mitsui Zosen), working in conjunction with professor Shigeru Naito of Osaka University, have developed a device that uses waves to draw text and pictures on the surface of water. The device consists of 50 water wave generators encircling a cylindrical tank 1.6 meters in diameter and 30 cm deep (about the size of a backyard kiddie pool). The wave generators move up and down in controlled motions to simultaneously produce a number of cylindrical waves that act as pixels. The pixels, which measure 10 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height, are combined to form lines and shapes. The device is capable of spelling out the entire roman alphabet, as well as some simple kanji characters. Each letter or picture remains on the water surface only for a moment, but they can be produced in succession on the surface every 3 seconds.

Remove Windows Media Player Integration (such as from the Right-Click menu)
WMP integrates itself all within the Windows shell. Many people notice this when they right-click that there are several WMP-related options. This little hack will remove the Windows Media Player integration and the right-click context media player menu options.
Leave my context menu alone! If you just let it go wild, every program in the world wants to install some option there. Windows Media Player not only puts itself there, but integrates itself throughout the shell. Actually removing this integration is surprisingly easy!
Remove WMP Integration:
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in regsvr32 /u wmpshell.dll
4. Click Enter
Easy!
This will remove the media player related right-click context menu options and other WMP integration. One side effect of this is that you may not be able to set WMP as your default media player anymore.
If you decide you want to integrate it once again, you should be able to issue this command instead
regsvr32 wmpshell.dll
