How to crash Internet Explorer ?

This web-page shows exactly HOW u can crash Internet-Explorer. Do not worry though, it will do no harm to your machine. This is just to show how vulnerable & ill-coded Internet explorer is.

The author claims, that he wrote the script, which involves Javascript, to test thins on IE & FireFox. He discovered this small script (61 bytes), could make IE bite the dust.

I personally tried it, it rendered just fine on Opera & FireFox. But IE (as expected) crashed. Here’s the screen-shot -

Time to trash IE & move to FireFox or Better still, Opera ?? I think so, coz i dumped IE years ago & never looked back.

Remove Windows Media Player Integration (such as from the Right-Click menu)

WMP integrates itself all within the Windows shell. Many people notice this when they right-click that there are several WMP-related options. This little hack will remove the Windows Media Player integration and the right-click context media player menu options.

Leave my context menu alone! If you just let it go wild, every program in the world wants to install some option there. Windows Media Player not only puts itself there, but integrates itself throughout the shell. Actually removing this integration is surprisingly easy!

Remove WMP Integration:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in regsvr32 /u wmpshell.dll
4. Click Enter

Easy!

This will remove the media player related right-click context menu options and other WMP integration. One side effect of this is that you may not be able to set WMP as your default media player anymore.

If you decide you want to integrate it once again, you should be able to issue this command instead

regsvr32 wmpshell.dll

Adobe Lightroom Beta

Windows/Mac: Adobe has just released a beta version of Lightroom, their new software for the entry-level professional photo editing market.

After spending some time with Lightroom last night and this morning, I’d say it’s something of a mix between Picasa and Photoshop - a little more “professional” in design and function than Picasa, but way more streamlined but less functional than Photoshop. If you’ve been waiting for a photo management and editing program to fill that void, Lightroom may be the ticket. Check out a few more screenshots after the jump.

Lightroom has an attractive fullscreen mode that it launches into by default the first time you run it.

To add images to your library, go to File -> Import. You’ll get thumbnails grouped together by folder name, but you can add all sorts of metadata if you like.

The filmstrip runs across the bottom of your screen, showing all of the photos in the current folder.

The “Five Rules” pop up as soon as you open Lightbox for the first time to give you a quick idea of what’s what when using the app.

ScatterChat : anonymous, secure chat

ScatterChat is a new hactivist program from the Cult of the Dead Cow. It’s an anonymous chat program that combines gaim, an open source encrypted chat protocol, with TOR, an open source “onion router” that disguises the origin and destination of packets, so that no one can know what you’re chatting, nor whom you’re chatting with.

ScatterChat is a HACKTIVIST WEAPON designed to allow non-technical human rights activists and political dissidents to communicate securely and anonymously while operating in hostile territory. It is also useful in corporate settings, or in other situations where privacy is desired. It is a secure instant messaging client (based upon the Gaim software) that provides end-to-end encryption, integrated onion-routing with Tor, secure file transfers, and easy-to-read documentation.

Speaking of Windows getting bogged down, you’re probably aware that Windows runs a lot of stuff in the background that takes up memory and processor cycles that could be better spent elsewhere, and you might even know how to access the Services control panel, but once you’re there it can be hard to know what to keep and what to kill. There is help to be found, however: Guide to Useless Services is an article on TechTree written back in December that identifies and describes 29 services that are probably running on your computer and probably don’t need to be.
